What is the difference between a DO and an MD?
D.O.’s are fully licensed physicians in the United States, like M.D.’s, capable of prescribing medication, performing surgery and entering any medical specialty. However in addition to studying the same curriculum as M.D.’s, they receive an additional 300-500 hours of training in the musculoskeletal system.
What is the difference between a DO and a cranio-sacral therapist?
“Cranial-Sacral Therapy" teaches simplified techniques that work on a cranial mechanism, but lack the training of a complete osteopathic medical education. Cranio-Sacral Therapy is different from Cranial Osteopathy both in principles and practice. Only a physician (DO/MD), dentist(DDS/DMD) or qualified international DO/MD is eligible to receive training in the osteopathic cranial concept and become a member of The Cranial Academy.
What can I expect during a visit?
During a visit, the doctor will obtain a history and do a physical exam before deciding the appropriate treatment. OMT is typically performed with you lying on the exam table on your back. It involves gentle and precise application of force, with the physicians hands, over different aspects of the body to eliminate restrictions in the tissues (muscle, bone, fascia, fluid) and balance asymmetries found during the exam.
Each patient’s experience of the treatment is different, some may feel relaxation, reduced muscle tension, improved motion and flow, or nothing at all.
Any additional recommendations in diet, exercise, supplements or prescriptions, specific to each individual may then be made.
Do you take insurance?
Sadly, because insurance companies have made reimbursement difficult, limit the time spent with patients, and inappropriately dictate plans of care, we are unable to do the work we do and contract with them.
Do you take Medicare?
No, Dr. Katrajian is opted out of Medicare. You will need to sign a private contract in order to be seen. This also means you will not be able to submit for reimbursement from Medicare.
What is the cost of a visit?
The initial consult is $565 for 1 hour. Follow-ups are $325 for 30 minutes. Trigger point injections or neural therapy injections are an additional $300. Prolotherapy varies by body region.
How many visits will I need?
The number of visits each individual needs depends upon many factors including the severity, complexity and chronicity of the problem and the individual's overall health. Some problems may resolve with just a few treatments, while others may require long term maintenance care. In general, you may begin to notice a change in the first 3-5 visits.
Will you be my Primary care doctor?
Unfortunately, Dr. Katrajian is not currently taking on primary care patients. You are encouraged to have a separate Primary doctor for your general medical needs.
